Make-up Policies
When you miss any class it is your responsibility to find out what work or activities you have missed. Your syllabus contains the tentative daily schedule but it is a good idea to exchange phone numbers with a fellow classmate so you have a contact person in addition to the instructor in case you miss class.
Each course has unique elements to the make up policy. Be sure to read the policy for your course.
SPEECH 1100 - Interpersonal Communication
Quizzes
– must be taken as scheduled. If you
know you will miss a quiz you can arrange with me to take that quiz in advance,
one time only. No make-up quizzes
after they are given in the classroom.
Papers
– are due on the date assigned.
Late papers will automatically lose one letter grade for every 24 hours (or
portion thereof) that they are late.
Group Presentation
– cannot be made up. If
you miss your group presentation it is an automatic 200 point deduction.
In class exercises and writing
assignments – cannot be made up.
IF you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to get notes
from a classmate and get caught up.
SPEECH 1110 - Public Speaking
Speeches
– You are expected to speak on your assigned speaking date.
If you are not prepared, whatever the reason, and
do not contact me prior to the class,
you will not be permitted to make up the speech.
Speeches will be allowed to be made up – time permitting only.
If a speech is permitted to be presented late (whatever the reason) it
will receive a letter grade deduction for each opportunity to speak for which
you are not prepared. Failure to
give a speech will result in a zero on that assignment.
Self-Evaluations
– are due on the assigned day.
One letter grade will be deducted for every 24 hours (or portion thereof)
that the paper is late.
Quizzes, in-class assignments,
speaker evaluations – cannot be made up.
SPEECH 2240 - Intercultural Communication
Quizzes
– must be taken as scheduled. If you

SPEECH 2230 - Small Group Communication
It
is expected that all students will hand in papers, give presentations, and take
tests on assigned dates. If for any
reason a student does not appear to take an exam during the scheduled time and
has not contacted the instructor prior to the class period, they will not be
permitted to make-up the assignment. Papers
turned in late will lose points for each weekday they are late. Failure to turn in an assignment or take an examination will
result in a zero on that assignment. Failure
to appear for a group presentation will result in failure of the course.
In-class writing
assignments and exercises cannot be made up or taken home.
